CLIENT SEARS HOLDING | ROLE CONCEPT & DESIGN | TOOLS SKETCH
The main objectives that were given to me as for the product designer were as follows: Rethinking of an existing mobile application, the creation of the new concept and guidelines, and the creation of a new and more relevant mobile applications. While working on this project, I had to synchronize the work with designers who are working on the website, developers, and managers of offices in Herzliya (Israel) and Chicago (USA). In addition, the workflow was controlled by the CEO of the holding company, Edward Lampert, and by SVP Shop Your Way, Eric Jaffe. The main problem with working on the project was that the
brand is on the stage of rethinking its visual style. I had not only to create something new within the framework of the existing task but also to be an active member of the work on the web and mobile web projects, as there were no stylistic references. It should be noted that the Shop Your Way is not just an e-commerce resource, but also it incorporates a system of recommendations and social network for customers of all brands of the holding. Accordingly, the application had to include the possibility of the thematic collections creation, as well as keeping in touch with other users and brands.
Before starting the interface development, I conducted the research and comparative work on existing applications in order to identify all the positive and negative aspects when working with them. Then, I created mock-ups served as a "base" for the future application. The final stage of the work on the application was the creation of a new launch icon, which had to contain the existing logo (with not yet changed colors), new color range, and the main direction of the mobile application.
I had to create the design for the new applications for iOS, so that in the future, another designer will be able to adapt it to the Android OS device. At the same time, I created a set of icons which can be used not only for mobile applications but also for its web and mobile web versions.
Splash screen and tutorials were created as clear as possible for the new user, so there are short texts about the main directions of the application use and visuals series, highlighting that the application is still a part of a large e-commerce brand concept Shop Your Way and the Sears company.
These screens are the part of the first vision of the application that started on the tutorial screens. The application includes the registration (which is automatically the registration on the Shop Your Way website) - both internal and are using Facebook (in this case, sign up and log in are the same action, which simplifies the overall process for the user). In case, if a user forgets his password, the data can be updated through e-mail.
The main part of the application, which includes both discover (recommendations, adding to catalogs and likes system which will help your friends detail explore the application based on your preferences), and e-commerce - the fast transition to a product page with further ordering. The section should be as "clean" as possible but providing the basic information about each product - image, name, price, availability of discounts and the number of users that saved this product in their catalogs (the preference is given to user's friends who also
use the mobile application or website). While login into the application for the first time, the user can select at least three types of products, which will be the basis of his first product feed or to connect their accounts to social networks, to start the work with the application using the friends' recommendations. Besides, there is the Quick Discover mode in the application, which will help the user to explore the recommended products fast using swipe mechanics, familiar to us by the dating applications (left swipe - like, right swipe - dislike).
The "Search" section lets the user use one of the two mechanic searches of the product by type or automatic search using intuitive input text field - application starts searching after the typing of the first character. In the second case, the application searches not only in the products categories but also by catalogs and users.
The "Shop'In" section provides with the information about the stores cooperating with Sears Holding, to contact them and make check-in, which works as a discount system, check-in gives the user a discount on the products purchased in the Sears and Kmart networks, products of Craftsman, Kenmore brands, etc.
There are three types of profiles with different tabs in the application: Personal profile with the ability to create and control catalogs and information about the account and points; Alien profile - the tab of catalogs with the possibility to follow (Follow) and the tab with the user information; and Brand profile including catalogs, brand products and information linked to
"Product Page" gives the maximum complete information about the product that he is interested in, such as photos, short description, catalogs with similar products and products that may be interesting for the user. Besides, the user can use comparison function to compare several products by their characteristics that allow him to take the right decision.
The "Shipping & Payment" section is a technical section where the user selects the type of payment, shipping address and gets the final cost of the product, including taxes and delivery. After ordering, the user receives a notification (in the application and on e-mail) about the order with the number for the further product tracking.
